ABOUT THE EXHIBITION

Burning Flags returns to the walls of Potassi K19 from Thursday 29 October to Sunday 8 November, for the duration of the In-Edit Festival and to mark the world premiere of The Fuck You Heroes, the first feature documentary directed by Glen E. Friedman.

Fifty-two photographs and audio installations in which Ice-T, Ian MacKaye, Chuck D, DMC, Jello Biafra, Lance Mountain and Rick Rubin describe what it was to be there. The exhibition opened in London in 2014 in a five-storey former embassy in Covent Garden, came to Barcelona in 2022, with more than 7,000 visitors in a month, travelled to 3537 in Le Marais, Paris, in 2023, and had its US premiere at the Woody Guthrie Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Entry is free, as at every venue since 2014; print sales keep it that way.

OPENING NIGHT: THURSDAY 29 OCTOBER, 19:00

Zack de la Rocha and Glen E. Friedman will be at Potassi K19 on opening night to sign the new Rage Against The Machine fundraising print. Every print ordered by 18:00 that day is signed by both of them. THE PRINT

Rage Against The Machine at the Roseland Ballroom, New York, 1996, Friedman's favourite photograph of the band, released as a print for the first time. THE FILM

The Fuck You Heroes (USA, 2026, 94 min) is told by the people who lived it, among them Tony Alva, Henry Rollins, Beastie Boys, Chuck D, Ian MacKaye, Rick Rubin, Shepard Fairey, Ice-T, Nadya Tolokonnikova and Zack de la Rocha. World premiere on Friday 30 October at 18:00 at MOOBY Aribau, Screen 3, with the director present; second screening on Tuesday 3 November at 18:30. Tickets at In-Edit.

THE DINNER

ABOUT GLEN E. FRIEDMAN

Born 1962, first published at fourteen. For over four decades Friedman has photographed the people who built modern counterculture — skateboarding, hardcore punk and the birth of hip-hop — from the inside. The definitive images of Run-DMC, Black Flag, Minor Threat, Public Enemy, Bad Brains, Beastie Boys, Tony Alva and Jay Adams are his. Author of more than a dozen books including My Rules (Rizzoli, 2014), co-producer of Dogtown & Z-Boys (2001), inducted into the Skateboarding Hall of Fame as an icon in 2012. His work is held by the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Pierpont Morgan Library & Museum, the Smithsonian Institution and others.

ABOUT POTASSI K19

Potassi K19 is a contemporary art gallery located in the heart of Barcelona’s Sant Pere district, steps from the Palau de la Música Catalana. Founded in 2022, the gallery operates at the intersection of visual art, design culture, music and performance, with a programme that favours artists whose work crosses disciplinary boundaries. Previous exhibitions have included work by Glen E. Friedman, Alex Trochut, John Smith (Girl Chewing Gum) and Daniela Carvalho.
